Starting out

blank notepad

Starting out on trustedba.com with a few thoughts on where I’m headed. I am often asked for business analysis advice by my clients and colleagues, so I thought it natural to put virtual pen to paper and distill some of my thoughts.

Common themes

Common themes include:

  • do you have a template for XYZ?
  • how do I [perform some technique]?
  • what training do you recommend for a new business analyst?
  • what are the career paths available to a business analyst?
  • what are the characteristics of a quality business analyst?
  • how do I develop and grow a business analysis practice?
  • where does business analysis fit with [some other discipline]?

The content will be aligned with International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) and will help you unlock more knowledge and understanding of business analysis. The content will be rich, digestible business analysis advice, helping to turn the theory of the body of knowledge into practical, pragmatic applications that you can use every day in your business analysis. The body of knowledge is exactly that, knowledge that a professional business analyst is expected to have – it does not prescribe any methods of application, it is not a framework. So, application of the knowledge in BABOK is up to you, the practitioner. There isn’t a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way of application (mostly) – use what works for you.

So, starting out from here without any great form or structure for the future of this site, let’s explore some of these themes as we go. I promise to write no less than one article a week, and possibly more depending on my creative ambition.

Update 3/1/25: I am revitalising my blog which I hadn’t updated for some time. I am posting up some previous content and will then start on some new content soon.
